Heart Operations and a nice winter view

Well the day has finally arrived and my mum is checked in to Nuffield Hospital Leeds ready for her Heart valve replacement tomorrow.
Lovely private room and a very nice full choice menu. It's ridiculous that she is having this op on the NHS but in a private hospital. Cant fault it though.
Just fingers crossed all goes well in the op tomorrow and she gets out as quick as possible.

It Snowed All Night....

After a lovely meal at the local Indian Restaurant last night, we came home and settled in for the night.
It snowed all night, and we have 3 or 4 inches of snow again. Nothing major, but nice to see. I'm sure the entire surronding area will grind to a halt yet again!
The kids will no doubt be wanting to go out for a walk when they get out of bed, which is good, means I can go and see my mum to make sure she is ready to go in for her Heart Op.
Strangely, the little Fiat hasnt got as much snow on it as the rest of the cars around it! I wonder why that is?
Looking forward to watching the Malaysian Grand Prix qualifying on SkyGo, see what that has in store for us.

Snow.....Really???

OK so I know we don't live in Scandinavia/Canada/Siberia, it's just a shame so many other people think we do.

I had 3 Inch, 7.5 cm for you metric people, of snow on the car this morning, brushed it all off, including from the lights and roof, and set off to work. The roads were very quiet, and as you can see were not blocked by snow round by me.

I don't want to rant about it, but why does this country grind to a halt when we have even a hint of snow ? People don't want to, or are told not to go out unless essential, which means the roads get more covered in snow because they aren't being used. I know some people aren't confident in the snow, and that's fine, but come on UK get a grip.

In other news, Car cover blows off Fiat 500 in Mirfield. Owner gutted he had to clear snow off car at 7:15am.

21st March - Freezing House and Muppets R Us !!

Woke up this morning at 6:35 am to the familiar scratching of my fat cat. At least it wasn't 4:30 like it is most days. Anyway, i digress.
The central heating should be on at 6:00 am to warm the house up nicely for the alarm to wake us up at 7 am. Not today!! Spent a bleary eyed 10 minutes having to reset the timer on the heating followed by the next 15 minutes freezing my bits off!!
Hopefully all is sorted now tho toasted warm this evening and in the morning.

Today's FatMumSlim photo a day challenge is Working! So the picture is my trusty trolley in the lift with the tools of my trade !! It did have more than that on it later on. I didn't just push a piece of paper round the office. Although that would have been preferable to dealing with the Muppets who were filling up the inbox.

Looking forward to next week. Short week and in Leeds unfortunately I'm there because my mum is in for a heart Operation!

Strikes, Pickets, and someone elses VBA code!!!!

So, we had a national strike today. I wonder if anyone noticed!

I know our customers didn't, they still got dealt with the same as always!

Our teams noticed slightly, we had one or two things in the mailbox rather than three or four.

Our immediate management team noticed as they had to provide hourly stats on who was in work or on strike, but as the work was getting done, thats about the only reason!

Our Employers will definately have notice, but unfortunately not for the reason the unions wanted. They will have counted up the number of people on strike, realised it wasnt particularly service effecting, and thought 'Thats 'X' number of days pay we've saved. One step closer to meeting our cost saving targets!'

I'm used to driving at, sorry, past Picket Lines during these one day strikes, so i was expecting more of the same when i got to work today. Unfortunately I didn't get to ignore any of them, as the only people outside the office were the management team making sure people were getting into work OK. They didnt need to bother, there wasnt a Picket Line to cross!

I know I should care about the cause, and in reality I do. Its just a fact that going without a days pay for me just isnt an option. Sorry!

Anyway, the drop in incomding work meant i could get on with checking, amending, and updating, 48 pages of VBA code that we have inherited as part of a new Tool. To be honest i thought we had enough Tools on the team :o)
I've got it down to 23 pages of code, and hopefully another hour or so at it tomorrow will knock it down a few more. That will mean I can throw it out for QA, and people can then ask for all the changes they should have asked for in the first place.
Ok I'm being harsh, I've been involved form the start, and all should be fine!

I've missed a hell of a lot of FatMumSlims Photo A Day challenge recently, I must try and get my arse back in gear and start taking some more pictures.

Filming The Last Witch in Halifax outside the office !!

From what I could gather from the numerous clapperboards being snapped on a regular basis, basically because the dog in the shot really didnt want to bother, this is the shoot for a scene from The Last Witch.

Never really figured that dogs had to have makeup on too!

A bit of research came up with the fact that Sky are filming The Last Witch in and around Halifax. It is based on work by Sally Wainwright, a writer from the Halifax area.

Why they chose the street outside our office to shoot this scene, who knows. I'll keep an eye out for the program when it is aired.
